At present Command Area Department, Jammu has three on going Projects under Command Area Development & Water Management Programme (CADWM) viz;-
1. Ranbir Canal CAD Project.
2. Doda/Rajouri/Gool-Sangaldhan CAD Project.
3. New Partap Canal CAD Project.

Salient Features of Ranbir Canal Project

Ranbir Canal Command Area Projects falls in Jammu District and forms life line to inhabitants of three Tehsils viz. Jammu (Partly), R.S Pura, Bishnah, covering five Rural Development Blocks namely Bhalwal (Partly), Marh, Satwari, R.S.Pura and Bishnah.

Ranbir Canal has the largest irrigation net work of the State of Jammu & Kashmir. The main canal is 60 km. in length which flows by gravity from River Chenab at Akhnoor. Its command area takes off from RD 4000 m of main canal at Village Dumi Malpur and through its distribution system of 460 km in length (17 Nos. of distributaries, 22, Nos of Sub distributions, 39 Nos. of minors & 4 Nos of Sub minors 1301 outlets) it provides irrigation to an area of 29700 hectares upto village Nekowal on Sialkote border of Pakistan & enroutes covers three Tehsils, Five block, 12 Panchayats & 489 Villages of Jammu Distt.


The project is having gross command area of 48,000 hectares with culturable command area 38,600 hectares.
The Project is having human population of 4.91 lacs of which 2.60 lacs. are males & 2.31 are females. The project area represents a composite society where people of different religions and faiths reside together. Schedule caste & Schedule tribes constitute 17.50% and 0.34% of the total population respectively

Salient features of Doda/Rajouri/Gool-Sangaldhan Project.

Culturable Command of Doda-Rajouri-Sangaldhan Gool cluster Canal Project is spread over three districts of Jammu division ( Doda, Rajouri & Ramban,) Seven blocks and Sixty Three villages of Jammu & Kashmir State.

The Project area receives water through 40 numbers of small canals/khuls that have been constructed by irrigation deptt. Command Area Development, Jammu took up the cluster Command of Doda, Rajouri, Sangaldhan Gool with an objective of increasing Agriculture Production and farm in come on sustainable basis by ensuring the fullest utilization of irrigation potential created through these canals / khuls which are the primary source of irrigation in the project area.
The original estimated cost of the project was 1088.95 lacs. The project was started from the year 2008-09 and is scheduled to be completed by 2011-12 with revised cost of the project to the tune of Rs. 1099.48 lacs to be shared on 50:40:10 basis between centre, State & farmer under CADWM Programme.

Salient features of New Partap Canal CAD Project.

New Partap Canal command falls in Jammu Distt. and forms the life lane for the people of Akhnoor tehsil and covers two Rural development blocks viz. Akhnoor & Khour.


The main New Partap Canal 33.69 km in length is having the source from River Chenab and passes through different villages of Akhnoor tehsil along with 157.24 km of distribution net works irrigating the entire command Area.
The project has gross Command Area of 29030 ha. With culturable Command Area of 9028 ha. Covering 28 Panchayats, 89 Villages and Municipal Committees of Jourian & Khour.


The project has been taken up by Command Area Development, Jammu during 2010-11 to be completed by 2014-15 with an estimated cost of 2802.17 lacs.
